MILTON BRADLEY ZOETROPE
This is a very interesting old parlor toy.  It is actually not a toy meant so much for children to play with but was made more for entertainment of adults.  It is called a Zoetrope.  There are a variety of printed and hand colored strips that fit inside of the cylinder.  When you have a strip inserted and spin the cylinder andl look through the slots in the side.  the strips come to life like an animation.  It really is kind of neat!  Zoetropes were made by several makers.  Some were made in France.  This is a nice large American example manufactured by Milton Bradley.  The bottom of the brown sloted pasteboard cylinder reads "Zoetrope or Wheel of Life Manufactured solely by Milton Bradley Co. Springfield, Mass.  It is patented April 23, 1867..  The zoetrope has an oak base.  the diameter of the cylinder is 11 3/4".  The height when it is mounted on the base is 15".  We are including  18 paper strips.  All but one of the strips are two sided.  The following is a listing of the numbers and titles of the strips included with the Zoetrope:  #2. #1. French Revolution, #2. #9 Jack in a box,  #6. #2 Meet Me By Moonlight, No. 10 Series 6 The Little Rope Jumper, The Magic Ocean, Chewing Gum, 2 #8 Roll a Bowl, 2 #12 Mother Goose, Donneybrook Fair, Keep the Ball Rolling, One sided example titled The Result of the Grecian Bend, No. 12 Series 6 the Wrong Room, No, 4 Series 6 The Old Mill, Raining Pitchforks, Base Ball, #6 #1 The Ignoble Art, No. 9 series 6 Hatched Matched and Despatched, No. 7 series 6 A Stitch in Time , or Never Too Late To Ment, No. 8 Series 6 Don Quizote on His Architetural Steed , No 5 Series 6 The Monkey In the Band, No. 11 Series 6 Whar You' Gwine Wid Dat Barr'l, Johny Jumper, Kick Her Up, #2 #6 Cruise of the Henrietta,  #2 #5 Progress, #2 #7 A Tip Top Thing, #2 #10 Star Spangled Banner, #2 Corn Fed, #2 #11 Running the Gauntlet, #2 #3 A Fly Catch, #2 #4 Steeple Chase, No. 6 Series 6 the Plane Case, No. 3 Sereis 6 The Velocipede, Old Dog Tray, and Gymnast.
